No need
to. Sounds like he knows his faith well and can handle himself.

If you're equipped for the criticism, go ahead,
but beware the temptation to "get even" using the same sorts of uncharitable
tactics fundamentalists have abused catholics with for years.

Don't go in
preaching and telling them they're wrong. Wait for them to challenge you. Then
you can respond without being guilty of rabble rousing. And who knows, maybe
they'll surprise you with a maturity beyond the anti-Catholic nonsense of the
past. Give 'em the chance anyways!

I tried
this more than one once. Even told the group I was in once, listen I don't want
to go down this road because it will produce a bad feeling among you when I tell
you. They insisted, I dropped the gauntlet with each question and there was just
stunned silence from everyone until someone started talking about sports about
10 minutes later... needless to say I wasn't invited back

Do you really believe everything
the Catholic Church says? You think you need a priest to forgive you? All those
guys in those Churches (Catholic/Orthodox) just get drunk they don't really have
a personal relationship with Jesus (referring to the persons father), I should
know I used to go be Orthodox - you think that's ok? Don't you think you need to
read the Bible for yourself? Those Churches are all about rules, don't you think
you need a personal relationship with Jesus? You think worshipping Mary is good?
Why would you pray for a dead person, whats the point?

I have gone to many non catholic denominational
bible studies-- as well as catholic bible studies-- and each group has a
emphasis based on the scripture knowledge of there leadership-

even when
I respond here -- I ask the Holy Spirit is there any thing -- that you want me
to say ?? this is the example of a "personal relationship" with Jesus the H.S.--
when I go to prayer groups-- each -- assembly has an ability to perceive-- based
on their spiritual gifting,

bible commentary -- is more than memorizing--
some body's elses "commentary" but I do like going to bible study groups-- where
people -- will say Well the Lord showed me this or the Lord taught me that--

having a personal relationship-- spiritual with answered prayer -- is
more interesting- then listening to some body-- rambling on-- and trying to do a
3 point sermon -- or trying to make a meaningful homlily

and once I
thought that the scripture verse that "when 2 or more are gathered in my name -
I am in the mist" was always true-- but I learned that -- it's kinda like--
being on the same bandwidth- or having 2 or3 bars on your antenna-- finding a
religious group -- is more than -- people all repeating the "our father " in
unision

Default The Spiritual Works of Mercy

Three of the seven spiritual works of mercy are to admonish the sinner, to forgive all injuries, and to bear wrongs patiently. I am trying to understand how to live that out with respect to a very close relative who most likely has a severe personality disorder, but can at times, be so genuine. I love her, and I want the best for her, but at present, she is not allowed to visit or call on the phone or speak to my children. It has been this way for over a year now. She has not even seen my youngest child. And this is one of several times in my adult life that I have had to go No Contact. It is agonizing. I don't know what is the godly approach. I am following the guidelines laid out in the book "Boundaries", which claims to be Biblically sound, and which was recommended by many of the great people here at CAF for my situation.
How do the works of mercy apply in a situation where one of the people are mentally ill? Any thoughts?

Are you able to visit her or spend time with her without your children present? Is that an option?

Unfortunately, not at present. For one thing, the rules are in place for my protection even more so than for my children. For another, we live hundreds of miles apart. I am doing what I can, maintaining contact strictly via written communication (Facebook and texting). But my main concern is how to continue to live out the Christian virtues and perform the spiritual works of mercy in situations where one is dealing with a person who is not completely sane or safe. Right now, what I am doing is what I can handle and what my husband will reluctantly agree to. But am I supposed to be aiming for something that requires a greater sacrifice on my part?

No, you certainly do not have to put yourself in physical danger while you have small children to care for. Pray for this person and maintain the limited written contact. Her life must be very difficult. Urge her to have faith in Christ.
